Breakthrough Action: SIT Formed in a Year-Old Professor Kidnapping Case in Araria

Araria Police Under Scrutiny for Laxity in Investigation

Patna, 14th October, 2023 –

In a significant development, the lawyer representing the Bihar government, acting on behalf of the Patna High Court, has called out the district police department, including Araria SP, in the high-profile case of the kidnapping of CKM Law College professor Vipin Kishore Mishra. The incident, which transpired on the evening of September 24, 2022, has now prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to bring swift closure to the case.

Eyewitness Nirupama Thakur, sister of Vipin Mishra, recounts that accused Prakash Kumar Mishra took Vipin Mishra from her residence with the promise of returning in an hour. Shockingly, Vipin Mishra never made it back home. A resident of Birpur in Supaul district, Vipin had heeded the repeated calls of his nephew Prakash, and his brother Rakesh Mishra, along with their father Bhuvan Mishra, to visit Araria.

On the following day, late Premlata Mishra, Vipin’s wife, filed an FIR at the Araria police station. The subsequent investigation implicated Prakash Mishra, Rakesh Mishra, Deepak Mishra, Rajeev Mishra, Bhuvan Mishra, Arjun Acharya, Bablu Mishra, and Nitish Yadav in the case. Despite the involvement of multiple suspects, the police only managed to apprehend Prakash Mishra, who, regrettably, was released on bail after ten months due to legal loopholes.

As a result of the Araria Police’s alleged laxity and inadequate investigation, there has been no progress in locating Vipin Mishra to date. With only a daughter and a son left in his family, who are tirelessly advocating for their father’s return, the case has now reached the Patna High Court. The Bihar government’s lawyer has sought an urgent response from Araria SP regarding this pressing matter.
