Champai Soren Appeals to Governor as Jharkhand Faces 18-Hour Governance Void

Champai Soren, the Chief Minister-in-waiting of Jharkhand, has informed Governor CP Radhakrishnan that the state has been without a government for the past 18 hours, leading to a state of confusion. Soren has urgently requested the Governor to take immediate steps to facilitate government formation. It has been reported that the Governor contacted Mr Soren at 5.30 pm in response to the plea.

Following Hemant Soren’s resignation as Chief Minister and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a corruption case, Champai Soren was chosen as the legislative party leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. In his letter to the Governor, Champai Soren mentioned that he had submitted a letter of support, signed by 47 MLAs from JMM, Congress, and RJD, exceeding the majority mark in the 81-member Assembly. However, he stated that despite all the MLAs accompanying him to the Raj Bhavan, they were not allowed inside.

In the letter written in Hindi, Champai Soren emphasized the absence of a government for the past 18 hours and the resulting confusion. He urged the Governor, as the constitutional head, to promptly take steps for the formation of a popular government to bring the state out of its current state of uncertainty. Soren also offered to bring all supporting MLAs to the Governor’s residence to demonstrate the majority support.

Meanwhile, Hemant Soren, facing investigation in connection with an alleged illegal change of land ownership by mafia in Jharkhand, has accused the Enforcement Directorate of abusing its power to destabilize the democratically elected government. Soren has approached the Supreme Court on the matter, with the petition scheduled for tomorrow. He alleges that the Enforcement Directorate is acting under the directives of the Central Government in an attempt to undermine the democratically elected government of Jharkhand, headed by him.
