Delhi Minister Meets Arvind Kejriwal In Jail, Says ‘He Claims to Be Resilient’

New Delhi: Saurabh Bharadwaj, a minister in the Delhi Cabinet, met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail on Wednesday for a 30-minute discussion, reassuring the public about Mr. Kejriwal’s well-being.

Mr. Bharadwaj stated that he conversed with Mr. Kejriwal through the partition of the ‘mulakat jangla’ during their meeting.

“In the ‘mulakat jangla’, we had conversation for almost half an hour. He conveyed that people shouldn’t be concerned about him. He affirmed his strength and determination to continue his battle with the support of Delhi’s citizens,” the Delhi minister informed reporters post the visit.

The ‘mulakat jangla’ means an iron mesh barrier which separates visitors from inmates during their interaction within the prison premises. It allows them to communicate while sitting on opposite sides of the barrier.

Despite his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money laundering case, Mr. Kejriwal has not resigned, with the Aam Aadmi Party emphasizing his intention to govern from behind bars.

Earlier this month, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s national general secretary Sandeep Pathak visited Mr. Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail on April 15.

Post the visit, Mr. Pathak informed reporters that Mr. Kejriwal plans to meet with two ministers each week to review the progress in their respective departments.

Following his arrest, Mr. Kejriwal communicated with his ministers regarding issues such as water supply and availability of medicines in government hospitals. He also urged party MLAs to engage with constituents and offer assistance where needed.
