Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 Held at JLN Stadium, 110 Athletes Compete

DPSA organised the Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, providing a competitive platform for 110 para-athletes across senior, junior and sub-junior categories.

The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) successfully organised the 3rd Senior and 2nd Junior & Sub-Junior Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, on Saturday. The one-day state-level event brought together 110 para-athletes from different districts of the national capital, showcasing strength, determination, and sporting excellence.

Recognised by the Government of Delhi and affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India, DPSA conducted the championship with the objective of strengthening the para powerlifting ecosystem in Delhi and offering athletes structured competitive exposure ahead of national-level events.

The championship was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who attended as the Chief Guest, along with Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police.

Addressing the athletes and officials, Dr. Menon emphasised that discipline, perseverance, and consistent effort are the foundations of sporting success. He said the performances of para-athletes reflect extraordinary mental strength and determination, adding that initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India are helping athletes from all sections of society to excel and represent the nation with pride.

Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, congratulated the participants and praised their courage and dedication. He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence and to aim for success at national and international competitions.

The championship featured keenly contested events across senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories, with athletes delivering impressive performances across weight divisions.

Speaking after the event, DPSA President Parul Singh said the championship reaffirmed the association’s commitment to creating a fair, inclusive, and athlete-focused platform for para sports in Delhi. She highlighted that regular state-level competitions are essential for identifying talent and supporting the long-term development of para-athletes.
