Former Deputy Chief Minister Rajaiah of Telangana was visibly emotional and distraught when he found out that he had not been given a ticket to contest in the upcoming state elections. Making a mark in the realm of politics can be challenging, marked by years of hard work to earn recognition and climb the ranks. With the election season upon us, many politicians were anticipating the opportunity to vie for seats in their respective constituencies. Unfortunately, for Thatikonda Rajaiah, who is an MLA of the BRS party and a former Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, things didn’t unfold as he had hoped.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, unveiled its complete list of 119 candidates who will be contesting in the upcoming 2023 Telangana Assembly Election. However, Rajaiah’s name was noticeably absent from the list, which left him visibly shaken. A video circulating on social media captured the moment Rajaiah knelt down with folded hands, overcome by inconsolable sobbing in front of fellow party members. With the support of his followers and colleagues, he eventually rose to his feet, wiping away his tears. It’s important to note that Rajaiah had faced accusations of sexual harassment in the past.
The election scenario also brought forth other notable candidates, with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao disclosing the initial list of contenders from his party, Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti (BRS), for the upcoming legislative assembly elections. The list encompassed candidates for all 119 assembly seats. Notably, K Chandrasekhar Rao himself is set to compete from both Kamareddy and Gajwel constituencies. Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) will also participate, representing the Sircilla constituency. Furthermore, T. Padma Rao, the Deputy Speaker, is slated to contest from Secunderabad, while Dasyam Vinay Bhasker and Nannapuneni Narender will be vying for seats in Warangal West and Warangal East respectively.
In terms of changes to the candidate lineup, BRS made revisions in seven constituencies, including Boath, Khanapur, Wyra, Korutla, Uppal, Asifabad, and Vemulawada. K Chandrashekar Rao clarified that while there weren’t extensive alterations from the previous elections, there were a total of seven changes. This decision was prompted, for instance, by ongoing legal matters involving certain candidates, such as the MLA candidate for Vemulawada. These shifts were detailed by CM KCR himself.
Scheduled for later this year, the 2023 Telangana legislative assembly election will determine the composition of the state’s legislature through the election of all 119 members.
