Former Maharashtra Congress Leader Milind Deora Named Shiv Sena Candidate for Rajya Sabha

Former Congress member Milind Deora has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena faction. Deora recently defected from the Congress party after years of association with them. He is set to file his nomination on Thursday.

Deora officially left the Congress party on January 14, as announced in a post where he stated, “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey.” Despite earlier denials of speculation about joining Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, Deora eventually made the move.

It’s reported that Deora was discontent with Shiv Sena (led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) staking a claim to the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency.

Deora, the son of veteran Congress leader Murli Deora, previously won the Mumbai South seat in 2004 and 2009. In the 2014 and 2019 elections, he came in as the first runner-up against Shiv Sena (undivided) leader Arvind Sawant.
