IIT-BHU Boosts Security After Student Assaulted

Security measures have been enhanced at IIT-BHU following an incident in which a female student was forcibly kissed and had her clothes torn by three unidentified men on campus. The incident occurred near the student’s hostel, and the men on motorcycles also recorded a video of the act.

Protesting students, who believe that outsiders were involved in the incident, are calling for a ban on non-campus individuals entering the premises. They are also requesting the construction of a barrier separating the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus.

After a meeting with student representatives, the institute announced its intention to pursue the concept of a closed campus with limited access in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

“The institute will actively engage with the Ministry of Education and the University administration to establish a closed campus with restricted entry,” stated the BHU Registrar.

The registrar further mentioned that security has been strengthened, and additional CCTV cameras will soon be installed on campus. And student movement will also restricted between 10 pm and 5 am.

According to the woman’s complaint, the incident occurred when she was with a friend on a Wednesday night near the Karman Baba temple. Three men on a motorcycle arrived, forcibly isolated her from her friend, and assaulted her. They then removed her clothing, recorded a video, and took photographs. They released her after 15 minutes and obtained her phone number, as detailed in the complaint.

The police are conducting an investigation and collaborating with the university administration to ensure campus safety.
