Air Force Officer Manisha Padhi has been appointed as India’s first woman Aide-de-Camp (ADC). Squadron Leader Padhi, a 2015 batch Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, officially assumed her duties on November 29 after Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati appointed her in a ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Aizawl.
The Mizoram Governor’s office released an official statement, declaring Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi as the ADC to the Governor of Mizoram. This appointment makes her the first woman from the Indian Armed Forces to hold the position of Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of the country.
Before her current role, Squadron Leader Padhi served at various Air Force stations in Bidar, Pune, and Bhatinda. She was introduced to the officers and staff of the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl upon formally joining her post on November 29.
In India, the title of Aide-de-Camp is an honorary one, and individuals holding or having held this position are conferred the post-nominal letters ADC. Typically, service chiefs and the President have aides-de-camp, with the President having five (three from the Army and one each from the Navy and Air Force). The appointment of Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi marks a historic moment as the first woman to hold this position in the Indian Armed Forces.
