Kangana Ranaut Faces Rejection from Netflix, Prime Video for Bilkis Bano Rape Case Film

Kangana Ranaut revealed that despite working on a script for over three years about the Bilkis Bano rape case, she has been unable to secure support from major studios and OTT platforms. In response to a fan’s tweet, the Padma Shri actor and filmmaker explained on Twitter that Netflix, Prime Video, and other studios have rejected the project, citing clear guidelines against politically motivated content.

Kangana mentioned that JioCinemas turned down the script due to her affiliation with the BJP, while Netflix cited its policy against engaging in politically motivated content. Despite having a researched and ready script, Kangana faced rejection from various platforms, including JioCinema, which cited her political alignment, and Zee, which mentioned an ongoing merger as reasons for not supporting the project.

She also expressed disappointment in the audience’s support for films like “Animal,” which achieved blockbuster status despite criticism for misogyny and glorification of toxic masculinity. Kangana stated that this negative response, along with the encouragement for films portraying violence against women, has been demotivating for someone dedicated to making empowering films for women. She hinted at a possible shift in her career in the coming years, wanting to dedicate the best years of her life to something more meaningful.
