With just a month remaining until the scheduled National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test – MDS, aspiring candidates are persistently urging for its postponement. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has set the NEET MDS exam date for March 18, 2024. However, many candidates argue that the decision to postpone the NEET PG 2024 exam from March 3 to July 7 is unfair, particularly when compared to the NEET MDS exam schedule. Initially planned for February 9, the NEET MDS 2024 exam was rescheduled to March 18, 2024, as per a notice dated January 20. This alteration only extends the exam date by 38 calendar days from the original plan. Aspirants have been appealing to authorities to shift the competitive exam from March to July.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the slated NEET MDS 2024 exam date, hopeful candidates launched a Twitter campaign using hashtags like #Postponeneetmds2024toJULY, #postponeneetmds2024tilljuly, #NEETMDS2024POSTPONEMENT, and #POSTPONENEETMDS2024. They argue that aligning the NEET MDS 2024 schedule with NEET PG Medical by postponing it to July 2024 would not only offer clarity to aspirants but also relieve the emotional stress they currently endure.
Over 8000 students from various platforms have signed a petition urging authorities to postpone NEET MDS 2024 until July. Additionally, the All India Student’s Union (AISU) penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, urging them to postpone the NEET MDS examination until July 2024. In the latest development, two candidates have approached the Supreme Court seeking the postponement of the NEET MDS exam, as reported by EdexLive. Dr. Ayesha Nazrin, one of the petitioners, highlighted that many of her friends were deemed ineligible for the exam due to cut-off eligibility criteria.
Ayesha, alongside another candidate, Dr. Rishab Chakraborty, filed a petition representing the non-eligible candidates, awaiting case enlistment. They hope for their case to be listed before February 19, the exam registration deadline. According to EdexLive, there are 11 petitioners who are ineligible for the medical examination.
Regarding the NEET MDS 2024 cut-off date for internship completion, candidates undergoing a 12-month compulsory rotatory internship/practical training, expected to conclude by March 31, 2024, can take the examination. However, they will not be eligible for admission unless they have completed the internship and obtained provisional or permanent registration by March 31, 2024, or produce a certificate from the head of the institution confirming completion by the same date.
