“Offer Prayers at Temples”: ML Khattar’s Response After Nuh Rally Denied Permission

After the Haryana government declined permission for a procession organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Nuh, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar mentioned on Sunday that people can visit nearby temples to offer prayers, especially considering the auspicious month of ‘Sawan’. The authorities had prohibited large gatherings in the district due to concerns about maintaining law and order, as raised by local police and intelligence agencies.

“Considering the incidents that occurred in Nuh, Haryana at the beginning of the month, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the state. Our police and administration have made the decision that instead of conducting a procession, individuals should visit nearby temples and participate in prayer. While permission for the procession has been denied, individuals are encouraged to go to nearby temples and partake in prayers, given that it is the month of Sawan,” Mr. Khattar informed reporters today.

He further stated that, in accordance with people’s faith, permission will be granted for the ritual of ‘jalabhishek’ (pouring of holy water) in the temples.

“During the Sawan month, everyone can perform the ‘jalabhishek’ ritual in their local temples. Due to the past incidents in Nuh, travel permission has not been granted in order to maintain law and order,” he added.

The Haryana government announced on Saturday that no approval had been provided for the Braj Mandal Shobha Yatra in Nuh and that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) had been enforced in the district.

Addressing the media, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata stated, “We have rejected the permission for the procession. However, some have indicated their intention to proceed with the procession. Therefore, we have implemented Section 144.”

Haryana Police also confirmed on Saturday that internet services in the Nuh district would be suspended until Monday.

Despite this, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has affirmed their determination to proceed with their procession in Nuh on Monday.
