New Delhi : Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, when asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential alternative, stated that such a question is irrelevant in a parliamentary system. He emphasized that in this system, individuals are not elected, but rather parties or coalitions representing certain principles and convictions.
In a statement to X, Tharoor explained that a journalist had posed this question to him, reiterating that identifying an individual alternative to Modi is not pertinent. He stressed the importance of electing a group of experienced and diverse leaders who prioritize addressing people’s issues over personal agendas.
Tharoor emphasized that the primary concern should be preserving India’s democracy and diversity, with the choice of Prime Minister being a secondary consideration. He highlighted the need for leaders who are responsive to the populace and uphold principles of inclusivity and pluralism.
Tharoor, who is contesting his fourth Lok Sabha election from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram constituency, is facing competition from BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Left front’s Pannyan Ravindran. He has been actively campaigning in his constituency for the upcoming election, scheduled for April 26.
