Sunil Grover Speaks Up About Rift with Kapil Sharma: ‘We Were Seated On Flight…’

New Delhi : Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma, who had a notable disagreement seven years ago, have finally shed light on the matter. They humorously suggested that the disagreement was a planned publicity stunt long before Netflix entered the Indian market. Prior to the premiere of their show, “The Great Indian Kapil Show,” they held a press conference.

Sunil Grover jokingly mentioned that they conceived the idea for the dispute while on a flight upon hearing about Netflix’s arrival in India. It was intended as a humorous prank. Grover quipped about their spat, saying, “We were seated on the flight and we learnt that Netflix was coming to India. So, let’s make it (the fight) a good publicity stunt.”

Kapil Sharma added that Sunil was occupied with numerous other projects at the time, making it challenging for them to reconcile. However, they have now reunited, and Sunil expressed his joy in returning to work with Kapil and the team, likening it to coming back home.

In the first episode of “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show,” Sunil will revive his popular character, Gutthi, and engage in banter with Ranbir Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor.

What Led to the Discord Between Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma?
Sunil Grover gained immense fame for his portrayals of Gutthi and Dr. Mashoor Gulati on “The Kapil Sharma Show.” He surprised everyone when he decided to depart from the show due to a disagreement with Kapil Sharma. The fight between the two famous comedians occurred in October, 2017 during a flight back to Mumbai after completing a show at Australia.

According to various media reports, it was alleged that Kapil was under the influence of alcohol during the altercation and purportedly behaved aggressively towards Sunil. Consequently, Sunil chose to exit “The Kapil Sharma Show” following this incident.
