Viral Video: ‘QR Code’ Henna Design Takes the Internet by Storm on Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, a cherished celebration honoring the bond between brothers and sisters, is being commemorated across India today with enthusiasm and deep religious sentiment. On this significant day, girls and women adorn their hands with intricate henna designs before tying the sacred rakhi thread around their brother’s wrist. Following the customary rakhi tying ritual, brothers often present gifts or money to their sisters. A novel and practical twist to the traditional gift-giving tradition has emerged in the form of a trending QR code rakhi. During the weekend, a renowned henna artist using the Instagram handle @yash_mehndi shared a video that has rapidly spread across the internet.

In the video, the artist demonstrated the process of creating a QR code pattern on a woman’s hand. This scannable QR code is designed to direct the person to an online payment service like Paytm.

The concept behind this QR code henna design was to simplify the process for brothers to transfer money directly to their sister’s accounts without using physical cash.

However, Yash clarified in the video’s description that the QR code is not functional and was solely designed for entertainment purposes. The caption reads, “It’s just some edited content. I combined a payment transaction screen recording with my henna video to make it appear real. The henna QR code cannot be used for actual payments,” the post clarified.
