Mumbai Police increase protection at Rohit Shetty’s residence after late-night firing sparks organised crime-linked investigation
New Delhi: Mumbai Police have tightened security at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu after unidentified persons opened fire at his residential building late at night. The incident has raised serious concerns and has now expanded into a wider investigation involving multiple agencies.
The firing took place at around 12:45 am on Sunday at Shetty Towers, a nine-storey building located in Juhu. According to officials, several gunshots were fired at the first floor of the building. During the attack, one bullet hit the glass of a gym located inside the premises. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Security Strengthened Immediately
Following the shooting, Mumbai Police conducted a detailed threat assessment. As a result, authorities increased security at Rohit Shetty’s home. Earlier, only two police personnel were deployed at the residence. Now, police have added more officers as a precaution while the investigation continues.
Officials said the decision was taken due to the serious nature of the attack and the possible involvement of organised crime groups. Meanwhile, police continue to maintain a strong presence in the area.
CCTV Helps Identify Suspect
Meanwhile, investigators began reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. During this process, police identified a man wearing a black jacket and white trousers. The footage shows the suspect firing towards the building from near the compound wall along Road No. 10.
Soon after firing the shots, the suspect fled the scene. Police believe he escaped quickly using a two-wheeler. Since then, several police teams have been tracking his movement using footage from nearby streets.

Forensic Teams Collect Evidence
Soon after the incident, forensic and ballistic teams arrived at the location. They carefully examined the scene and collected bullet fragments along with other physical evidence.
These samples are now being analysed to determine the type of weapon used. At the same time, police are checking whether the firearm matches weapons used in previous criminal cases linked to organised crime.
Pune Police Detain Five Men
As the investigation progressed, Pune Police detained five suspects in connection with the firing. The Warje Malwadi police carried out the detentions.
Meanwhile, police identified the suspects as Aman Marote, aged 27, and Aditya Gayaki, aged 19, both residents of Karve Nagar. In addition, police detained Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Sakat (23) from Dhayari.
Later, Pune Police handed over all five suspects to Mumbai Police for further questioning.
Bishnoi Gang Link Probed
At the same time, investigators began probing a possible link to Shubham Lonkar, who is believed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Lonkar is also named as an accused in the high-profile Baba Siddique murder case.
Police are examining whether Lonkar planned the attack or provided support to those involved. Officials believe the firing may have been pre-planned rather than a random act.
Threat Post Under Review
Following the firing, a threatening message appeared on social media within hours of the incident. The post allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack and mentioned Lonkar’s involvement.
Police cyber teams have taken note of the message and are examining it closely. Authorities are trying to trace its origin and verify the claims made in the post.
Investigation Continues
Currently, Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch are conducting an inquiry at numerous locations. Teams are studying CCTV video, call records, and digital data to identify the shooter and expose the entire network responsible for the attack.
