Young Participants from Across India Simulate Parliament to Discuss Critical National Issues
New Delhi: Held on July 19 and 20 at the NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg, the two-day Delhi Student Parliament offered students from different states an opportunity to understand the workings of parliamentary democracy through a simulated parliamentary session. Playing the roles of MPs, ministers, opposition leaders, and the Speaker, participants deliberated on key contemporary issues while developing practical insights into democratic governance.
The programme featured extensive discussions on education, employment, women’s empowerment, social justice, national security, economic development, environmental sustainability, and democratic principles. Participants, acting as members of both the treasury and opposition benches, articulated their views with evidence-based arguments while maintaining the dignity and discipline expected in parliamentary proceedings.
Chief Guest Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, speaking at the inaugural session, said that constitutional values, constructive dialogue, and responsible leadership are the cornerstones of a vibrant democracy. He added that platforms like the Delhi Student Parliament provide young minds with valuable exposure to democratic governance.
The event was also attended by Dr. Binod Kumar Bind, MP from Bhadohi, who motivated students to become active participants in democratic processes. He observed that an informed and responsible younger generation is vital to safeguarding the future of democracy.
Vice Chairperson of the OBC Commission Satyendra Bari stressed the need for inclusive representation, stating that democracy can truly succeed only when every community has an equal voice and opportunity.
Addressing the gathering, NCP National Youth President Dheeraj Sharma encouraged students to lead with honesty, thoughtful dialogue, and innovative ideas to help build a progressive nation.
The proceedings were conducted by Sreejata Ghos, who inspired participants to freely express their opinions while respecting parliamentary conventions. Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh urged media organisations to provide extensive coverage of the event across all major platforms, ensuring greater visibility for students’ perspectives.
Organised under the leadership of President Vishal Mishra, the Student Parliament was appreciated for its disciplined conduct, effective coordination, and smooth execution. The initiative provided students from across the country with an opportunity to understand parliamentary functioning, develop leadership qualities, strengthen critical thinking, and engage with democratic processes in a practical setting.
The valedictory session on July 20 was attended by Abhay Singh, MLA from Gosaiganj Assembly Constituency in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. He encouraged participants to remain committed to constitutional values and highlighted the importance of youth participation in strengthening democracy.
The organising committee, including Vice President Praveen Rawat, General Secretary Kaushiki Tripathi, Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh, and members of the core committee—Vidhi, Aarushi Tiwari, Prakhar Singh, Shalini, Sakshi, and other volunteers—played a key role in ensuring the success of the event.
The Delhi Student Parliament concluded with the message that democracy extends beyond Parliament and is strengthened through informed dialogue, active participation, and responsible citizenship. The enthusiasm, discipline, and thoughtful engagement displayed by students from across India reflected the growing commitment of the country’s youth towards democratic leadership and nation-building.
