ICC is set to announce the much-awaited schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Check when and where the cricket tournament schedule will be revealed
New Delhi: Cricket fans have a big update to look forward to. The ICC will announce the complete schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup on October 1. The ICC and Cricket South Africa will reveal the tournament schedule during an event in Cape Town.
South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will host the 2027 ODI World Cup. The ICC will bring the ODI World Cup back to Africa after nearly 24 years. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya last hosted the tournament in 2003.
14 Teams Will Take Part
A total of 14 teams will play in the World Cup. The tournament will feature 57 matches. The ICC has also changed the tournament format for this edition. Teams will play their matches across different stages.
South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured their spots as the host nations. Some other teams will qualify directly based on the ICC ODI rankings, while the remaining teams will earn their spots through the qualifiers.
Matches to Take Place at 12 Venues
The ICC has selected 12 venues for the World Cup. South Africa will host matches at eight venues, Zimbabwe at three, and Namibia at one venue.
In South Africa, matches will take place in Johannesburg, Centurion, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Paarl and East London.
Zimbabwe will host matches in Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, will also host World Cup matches.
World Cup to Feature a New Format
The ICC has planned a three-stage format for the 2027 World Cup. In the first stage, the three lowest-ranked teams will play against each other. The winner will move to the next stage.
The tournament will then feature 12 teams divided into two groups of six. All teams will play each other in a round-robin format.
After that, the teams will enter the Super 7 stage. This stage will feature 21 matches. The top four teams will then qualify for the semi-finals, followed by the final.
Ticket Registration to Start on October 1
Along with the schedule announcement, the ICC will also open the ticket ballot for the World Cup. Fans can register for tickets from October 1. However, the ICC will not start direct ticket sales on that day.
All eyes are now on October 1. The ICC will reveal the complete World Cup 2027 schedule, including match dates and venues, on that day.
