Congress and the KCR Party have jointly moved for a vote of no confidence against the Narendra Modi-led government in the Lok Sabha. This decision comes amidst an impasse in Parliament due to the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur. The Monsoon Session, which began on July 20, has been continuously disrupted because of this issue.
While the opposition parties know that the no-confidence motion is unlikely to succeed in terms of numbers, they believe that they can gain an advantage by putting the government on the spot during the debate on the Manipur situation.
Their objective is to compel the Prime Minister to address the matter directly in Parliament, despite the government’s insistence that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the one responding to the debate on Manipur.
In response to the opposition’s actions, there have been protests and disruptions in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, leading to multiple adjournments since the commencement of the Monsoon Session on July 20.
The government has expressed its willingness to discuss the Manipur issue, but the opposition parties are pushing for a discussion under a rule that involves voting as well.
