In a chilling tale of love, lockdown, and deadly obsession, a Covid romance in Assam’s Golaghat district took a horrific turn, leaving behind a grisly trail of triple murder. The once tender connection between 25-year-old Nazibur Rahman Bora, a skilled mechanical engineer, and 24-year-old Sanghamitra Ghosh, seemed like the stuff of fairytales when they first met on Facebook during the nationwide lockdown in 2020.
What started as an innocent friendship quickly blossomed into an all-consuming love, and the couple couldn’t resist eloping to the vibrant streets of Kolkata in October that year. However, their forbidden romance faced fierce opposition from Sanghamitra’s parents, who managed to bring her back home but couldn’t undo the knot they had tied in a distant court.
Their passion knew no bounds, and in a daring move, the star-crossed lovers eloped again, this time to the vibrant city of Chennai, where they basked in each other’s love for five blissful months. But fate had something sinister in store for them. As they returned to Golaghat, Sanghamitra carried a precious secret within her – she was pregnant with Nazibur’s child.
Their joyous reunion turned into a nightmare as dark clouds loomed over their tumultuous relationship. Accusations of theft and domestic turmoil led to Sanghamitra’s arrest and a month-long stay behind bars. She might have thought that time would heal their wounds, but the scars of their troubled past never truly faded away.
In a tragic twist of events, history repeated itself as Sanghamitra once again sought refuge with her parents, leaving Nazibur devastated and enraged. She accused him of unspeakable cruelty, and the authorities got involved, registering a case of attempted murder against Nazibur. Even though he was eventually released on bail, the bitterness between the two families intensified.
Unable to hold back his emotions any longer, Nazibur decided to take matters into his own hands. On that fateful Monday afternoon, a storm of violence erupted in the Ghosh household. The once quiet home turned into a blood-soaked crime scene, with machete wounds painting the walls with ghastly pools of red.
In the aftermath of this monstrous act, Nazibur fled the scene with his innocent nine-month-old baby cradled in his arms. The heart-wrenching tragedy had reached its climax, and the echoes of the violence reverberated through the community.
