On Thursday, the Congress party marked its 139th Foundation Day with a celebration at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Headquarters in Delhi. Mallikarjun Kharge, the party’s national president, raised the party flag during the event.
Kharge engaged in discussions with key party figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rajiv Shukla, and KC Venugopal. In a post on X, Kharge emphasized the party’s representation of the people’s will and its association with values such as struggle, compassion, freedom, justice, and equality. He reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to safeguard the Indian Constitution and uphold democratic values.
Former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, along with current party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, are slated to address the ‘Hain Tayyar Hum’ rally in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Thursday.
Rahul Gandhi expressed his pride in being part of an organization built on truth, non-violence, love, brotherhood, respect, equality, and patriotism. He extended heartfelt wishes to leaders, officials, supporters, and fellow Congress workers on the occasion of Congress Foundation Day.
Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad highlighted the party’s consistent goal since its inception, focusing on fostering unity in society and eliminating divisive sentiments and hatred.
The Indian National Congress, founded on December 28, 1885, in Bombay (now Mumbai), aimed to unite society and free it from British rule. The party’s formation responded to British attempts to sow discord in society.
As part of the ‘Praja Palana’ initiative in Telangana, Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao announced the state government’s distribution of white ration cards to the economically disadvantaged population from December 28 to January 6.
