Cyclone Michaung Brings Giant Crocodile to Chennai Roads After Heavy Rains

Cyclone Michaung is causing heavy rainfall in Chennai due to its proximity, and the inclement weather is impacting daily life in Tamil Nadu. Families are grappling with safety concerns as roads and infrastructure face inundation.

Amid these challenging conditions, a video has surfaced on social media showing a giant crocodile crawling on a road in the Perungalathur area of the city during the night. The reptile eventually disappears into the bushes. The video has gone viral, with users expressing fear and making comments about the unusual sighting.

This isn’t the first instance of such an occurrence; previously, after heavy rain in September, a crocodile was spotted on a road in Hyderabad’s Khairtabad area near an open drainage channel.

In response to the recent video, Tamil Nadu’s additional chief secretary for environment climate change & forests, Supriya Sahu, cautioned people not to approach reptiles, emphasizing that they are shy creatures that avoid human contact.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall, light thunderstorms, and lightning in ten districts of Tamil Nadu for Tuesday morning. The IMD predicts that Cyclone Michaung, centered over the west coast of the Bay of Bengal, is likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm between Nellore and Machilipatnam on Tuesday morning.
