The Finance Minister of Delhi, Atishi, delivered the city’s budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Monday. The Budget Session 2024 of the Delhi Assembly commenced on 15 February and has been extended until March 8. During the budget presentation, FM Atishi announced a substantial allocation of Rs 16,396 crore for the education sector in the financial year 2024-25.

In presenting the Budget 2024-25, the Delhi Finance Minister underscored that she is not merely presenting the 10th budget of the Kejriwal Government but also elucidating the evolving socioeconomic landscape of the national capital.
“In 2014, Delhi’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) stood at Rs 4.95 lakh crores, and over the ensuing ten years, it has surged to Rs 11.08 lakh crores, marking a notable doubling. Similarly, the per capita income of Delhi, which stood at Rs 2.47 lakhs in 2014, has now ascended to 4.62 lakhs, surpassing the national average by two and a half times… Today, I am presenting a budget of Rs 76,000 crores…” Atishi elaborated.

“In the budget 2024 of Rs 76,000 crore, not a single rupee from central taxes will be received.. Traditionally, socioeconomic status was often inherited, leading to entrenched the disparities. However, this paradigm contradicts the essence of ‘Ram Rajya’. The Kejriwal government has actively challenged this notion… Today, we witness children from laborer families ascending to positions of prominence. Notably, 2,121 students from Kejriwal government schools have successfully cleared the JEE and NEET exams. Education remains a paramount focus of our governance agenda. In 2015, we doubled our investment in education, allocating a quarter of our expenditure exclusively to this sector… This year, we are committing Rs 16,396 crores towards education…” affirmed Delhi Minister Atishi.
