Election Commission Issues Notice to Atishi Over BJP Allegations

#Election Commission Issues Notice to Atishi of AAP Over Allegations of Being Pressured to Join BJP or Face Arrest, Seeks Response by April 8

New Delhi: Following Delhi Minister Atishi’s claim that she was given an ultimatum to either join the BJP or face arrest, the Election Commission of India has served her a notice for an alleged violation of the electoral code. Atishi, who holds a senior position within the AAP and oversees its affairs, has been instructed to provide her statement by 5 PM this Saturday, in the wake of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent detention.

Atishi’s Allegations:
Atishi, who serves as the Minister of Education for Delhi, disclosed that she was approached by individuals claiming to represent the BJP. According to her, they offered her the opportunity to switch sides in exchange for safeguarding her political future.

“I have been contacted by someone very close to the BJP. They have asserted that if I join the BJP, my political career will be secure. However, they have also threatened to arrest me through the Enforcement Directorate within a month if I refuse,” Atishi stated on Tuesday.

Furthermore, Atishi alleged that she, along with Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, MLA Durgesh Pathak, and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, are under imminent threat of arrest.

BJP’s Response to Atishi’s Claims:
Virendra Sachdeva, the head of Delhi BJP, challenged Atishi’s claims, stating that she failed to provide evidence of the alleged approach by the BJP representatives. “The AAP is grappling with internal issues in Delhi, leading to frustration and baseless accusations. Nevertheless, we will not tolerate such falsehoods,” Sachdeva remarked previously. In response, the BJP has issued a defamation notice to Atishi and demanded a public apology.
