Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, embroiled in the ‘Cash-for-Query’ Case, has been expelled from the Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament. Recent reports indicate that she has received a notice to vacate her official residence in New Delhi within the next 30 days. Additionally, Moitra has taken her case to the Supreme Court, challenging her expulsion. The expulsion stems from her alleged acceptance of gifts and cash from a businessman to pose questions in Parliament, targeting the BJP government led by Narendra Modi. The Ethics Committee found her guilty of unethical conduct, breach of parliamentary privileges, and contempt of the House, asserting that she deliberately shared her Lok Sabha login credentials with the businessman. Moitra, reacting to her expulsion, criticized the government, claiming that the Ethics Committee lacks the authority to expel and framed it as the beginning of the BJP’s downfall. She accused the government of turning parliamentary panels into tools for coercing the opposition.
