The 18th G20 Summit is scheduled to take place at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, next week. Authorities in the national capital have been diligently preparing to welcome delegates from around the world, including more than 25 heads of state and leaders of global institutions.
In order to ensure the smooth operation of the summit, the Delhi Police has issued directives regarding the Delhi Metro’s operations. For security reasons, certain metro stations will remain closed from September 8 to 10, coinciding with India hosting the G20 Summit.
As per the police orders, the following metro stations will be completely closed to both entry and exit: Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, and Sadar Bazar Cantonment.
Additionally, Dhaula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, Supreme Court, and Bhikaji Cama Place metro stations have been identified as sensitive areas. Moreover, the Supreme Court Metro Station, the closest station to the venue, will also remain entirely closed.
Apart from the mentioned stations, the Delhi Metro will continue to operate normally.
Passengers traveling to Delhi airport between the night of September 7 and the evening of September 11 are advised to use alternative transportation options.
Previously, the Delhi Metro had announced the sale of ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ at dedicated counters in 36 stations from September 4 to 13.
Although these ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ are available on regular days, special counters have been set up for a 10-day period starting Monday, in light of the G20 Summit, as explained by a senior official.
The 36 stations where these cards will be available through dedicated counters include Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, and Supreme Court metro stations.
Furthermore, Delhi traffic police have released a comprehensive advisory regarding traffic movement in the national capital. According to the official statement, all traffic restrictions will be in effect from the night of September 7 until September 11.
