Green Corridor Established for Swift Rescue of 41 Tunnel Workers

A green corridor has been established for the transportation of 41 workers rescued from the collapsed Silkyara tunnel. Forty-one ambulances are on standby at the tunnel’s entrance, ready to swiftly transport the workers to the Chinyalisaur Community Health Centre, located 30 km away. A designated ward with 41 oxygen-equipped beds has been set up to provide prompt medical care.

The road leading to the tunnel is undergoing repairs due to unevenness caused by heavy vehicle traffic over the past two weeks. This is being done to ensure the unimpeded passage of ambulances.

Security personnel are positioned at the tunnel’s periphery to implement the evacuation protocol as soon as the workers emerge from the rescue passage. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the pipe-laying work to reach the trapped workers has been completed, expressing gratitude for the efforts of rescue teams and the prayers of the nation. A team of 24 experienced “rat-hole mining” experts is manually drilling a narrow passageway toward the trapped workers.

Concerns about the workers navigating through the two-and-a-half feet diameter pipes were downplayed by rescue officials, citing their prior experience in 2-foot pipes. To ensure their safety, each worker will be provided with a helmet, uniform, mask, and glasses.
