JNUSU Criticizes University for Omitting Union from Academic Council Meeting

JNUSU President Dhananjay Requests Inclusion of Elected Office Bearers in Academic Council Meeting

29 March 2024

In a statement issued by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), strong criticism was directed towards the university administration for its exclusion of the student body from the Academic Council meeting held on Thursday. Describing the action as “autocratic,” JNUSU expressed concern over not receiving invitations to a meeting vital for discussing and making decisions regarding student interests.

The statement emphasized the significance of the Academic Council meeting scheduled for March 28, 2024, at 3 PM, highlighting the absence of elected JNUSU representatives from the discussions. Despite continuous attempts to engage with the registrar for clarification on the meeting and its agenda, JNUSU lamented the lack of official invitations and responsiveness from the administration.

JNUSU President Dhananjay underscored, in a letter addressed to the university’s registrar, the necessity, as outlined in the JNU Act, for elected JNUSU office bearers to be included in the Academic Council meeting on March 28, 2024, to ensure adequate student representation.
