Koneru Humpy is a highly accomplished Indian chess player celebrated for her triumph in the FIDE Women’s Rapid Chess Championship in 2019. Born on March 31, 1987, in Andhra Pradesh, she etched her name in history by becoming the youngest woman to achieve the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2002, at the tender age of 15.

Koneru Humpy’s father, Ashok Koneru, is a chemistry lecturer and a skilled chess player himself, having won the South India open championship in 1985. Humpy’s passion for chess ignited at the age of five, and upon recognizing her extraordinary talent, her father began training her.
