L&T loses legal battle; MEIL bags Sharavathi pumped storage project in Karnataka

New Delhi: In a major setback to Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T), the Hon’ble Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by L&T challenging the tendering process for the prestigious Sharavathy Pumped Storage Project. The bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud dismissed the SLP after hearing the matter at length, stating that sufficient time was granted by the State and yet L&T couldn’t submit the Bid. It was submitted that L&T was not qualified to participate, lacking experience in electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical works.

L&T challenged the order of the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice N.V Anjaria and Justice Krishna S Dixit of the Karnataka High Court in WA 381/2024, the Hon’ble High Court dismissed the Appeal stating that L&T was pedalling its commercial interest and duly noted the conduct of L&T.

The tender for the Sharavathi pumped storage project, which is currently being run by KPCL, has been bagged by MEIL, which quoted a lower price.
