New Delhi, May 15, 2024:

In a significant move, advocates of the Supreme Court of India have extended their full support to the ‘Haryana Banao Abhiyan’, which demands the formation of a separate High Court and a new capital for the state of Haryana. This unanimous proposal was passed during a meeting held yesterday evening at the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Senior Advocate Sheeshpal Lalar.

Prominent advocates including Sanjay Bansal, former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Somvir Deswal, Raj Kumar Rathor, Bharat Sarup Sharma, Sangeeta Singh, GS Mani, Balraj Malik, Bhupender Dalal, Dharampal Saini, Govind Narayan Kaushik, Jogendra Singh, Kamlesh Kumar Maurya, Agha Jilani, Randhir Singh Badhran, Surendra Bairagi, Yespal Rana, and Ravikant participated in the discussion.

In a decisive step, the Haryana Banao Abhiyan team has approached the Supreme Court to examine the legal issues surrounding the establishment of a separate High Court and the delineation of the borders for a new capital of Haryana. An 11-member committee of legal experts has been constituted to address these issues. This committee will draft an Amendment Bill to suggest necessary changes to the Punjab Reorganization Act of 1966 and propose the constitution of a separate Bar Council for Haryana.

The advocates aim to persuade the government for an Amendment Bill in the upcoming Parliament session, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of India. This initiative seeks to ensure timely action and avoid unnecessary delays, serving the larger interest of the state of Haryana and its residents.

Adv. Somvir Deswal, said, “The establishment of a separate High Court and a new capital for Haryana is a long-overdue necessity that will enhance the efficiency and administration of justice in the state.”

Adv. Sangeeta Singh stated, “This move will not only decentralize judicial power but also bring governance closer to the people of Haryana, ensuring better service delivery and local development.”

Adv Sheeshpal Lalar, said, “We are committed to pursuing this cause with utmost dedication, ensuring that Haryana’s legal and administrative framework meets the needs of its citizens.”

Randhir Singh Badhran, former Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana and Convener of the Haryana Banao Abhiyan, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the future and prosperity of Haryana.
