In preparation for the Asia Cup 2023, Virat Kohli took to Instagram to disclose his Yo-Yo test score on Thursday. The accomplished Indian batsman, known for being one of the fittest players in his generation, achieved a score of 17.2 in the fitness test, surpassing the reported acceptable threshold of 16.5. While fans were excited to witness Kohli’s fitness prowess at the age of 34, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) administrators weren’t entirely pleased with the player sharing confidential information on social media.
Kohli had posted on Instagram through a story, saying, “Feeling accomplished after completing the Yo-Yo test amidst the challenging cones. Scored 17.2.” Nevertheless, the BCCI sent out a verbal reminder to all players, including Kohli, emphasizing that revealing such details on social media was against the rules.
According to an Indian Express report, a BCCI official stated, “Players have been verbally instructed to refrain from sharing any confidential information on social media platforms. While they can share training pictures, disclosing specific scores goes against the contractual agreements.”
The Indian players, selected for the Asia Cup 2023 squad, have been engaged in a specialized training program at a camp in Bengaluru. While most players joined the camp a few days earlier, those who were occupied with the Ireland T20I series are set to join on August 25.
Reportedly designed with an eye on the upcoming ODI World Cup, the training program is aimed at ensuring all potential team members remain in optimal physical condition. The board is keen on having all its players, under consideration for the tournament, maintain peak fitness levels to enhance the team’s chances of clinching the title and putting an end to their prolonged ICC trophy drought.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to commence on August 30, with the Indian team facing arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match of the tournament on September 02.
