RCB entered IPL 2026 playoffs after crucial wickets of Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh stopped Punjab Kings’ comeback in Dharamsala
New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru continued their brilliant run in IPL 2026 and officially became the first team to qualify for the playoffs after defeating Punjab Kings by 23 runs at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on May 17.
RCB produced a complete team performance with both bat and ball as they posted a huge total of 222/4 in 20 overs and later restricted Punjab Kings to 199/8. The important victory helped Bengaluru move to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 18 points from 13 matches.
RCB have now won 9 matches and lost only 4 this season. Their net run rate also improved to +1.065, which is currently the best among all teams. The Bengaluru franchise now sits comfortably at the number one position in the points table ahead of Gujarat Titans, who are second with 16 points from 13 matches.

Punjab Kings, meanwhile, suffered another major setback after this defeat. PBKS now have 13 points from 13 matches and slipped to fourth place in the standings. Their playoff hopes are now under pressure after losing several important matches in a row.
