Covid is Not Over Yet: Rising COVID Cases in Andhra Pradesh Spark Government Alert – Which Variant is Behind the Surge?

COVID-19 has reappeared in Andhra Pradesh, raising important questions about the specific variant driving the new cases. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation, with Kadapa district reporting the highest number of infections.

So far, eight active COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Kadapa. Two patients have sadly passed away after testing positive. A 43-year-old man from Kadapa died on July 7 at RIMS Hospital due to severe pneumonia and breathing issues. Another 52-year-old man from Rajampet in Annamayya district, who had multiple health complications, died while undergoing treatment in Vellore.

Most of the eight patients are stable, with mild or no symptoms. They are recovering under home isolation, including a 25-year-old medical student from Kadapa.

CM Chandrababu Naidu Orders Swift Action

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has put the health department on high alert. Districts have been told to increase testing, prepare isolation wards, and strengthen contact tracing. Rapid response teams are active in the affected areas.

Health authorities have sent samples from the patients to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for genome sequencing. This testing is crucial to identify the exact COVID variant responsible. Officials suspect it could be a new Omicron subvariant, but results are still awaited.
