HRDS India Denounces Violent Protests, Attacks on Police and Vandalism; Reaffirms Trust in Rule of Law and Democratic Values
New Delhi: HRDS INDIA has expressed deep concern over the incidents of violence, vandalism and injuries to security personnel during the recent Gen Z-led protests in the national capital. The organisation strongly condemned the disruption of public order, attacks on law enforcement personnel and damage to public and private property.
According to official statements issued by the Delhi Police, a section of protesters engaged in aggressive and unlawful activities, including stone-pelting, attacks on police personnel, vandalism of official vehicles and large-scale violence. The unrest resulted in injuries to several police officers, including senior officials and women personnel, while causing damage to public and private assets.
HRDS INDIA unequivocally denounced all forms of violence, attacks on those responsible for maintaining public safety and destruction of property. The organisation stated that such acts have no place in a democratic society and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
India is a constitutional democracy founded on the principles of the rule of law. HRDS INDIA recognises the fundamental right of every citizen, including students and young people, to express concerns and participate in peaceful protests through lawful and democratic means. The organisation respects and supports the right of students to raise their aspirations and grievances in a responsible manner.
However, HRDS INDIA emphasised that when protests turn into violence, stone-pelting, vandalism or attacks on police personnel, they move beyond democratic expression and become a threat to public order and constitutional governance. No demand, movement or grievance can override the importance of law, peace and social harmony. Maintaining law and order is essential for protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring sustainable development.
HRDS INDIA also raised concerns over any possible attempts by foreign-funded organisations or external elements to misuse genuine student concerns for creating unrest. The organisation called for a thorough investigation into any sources of funding, external involvement or groups responsible for violence and disruption, ensuring accountability under the law.
The organisation expressed full confidence in India’s democratic institutions, Delhi Police and the broader governance framework under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uphold the Constitution, safeguard public property and ensure impartial justice. HRDS INDIA stated that individuals involved in violent activities must be identified and dealt with according to legal procedures, while peaceful protesters should be clearly distinguished from those involved in unlawful actions.
HRDS INDIA appreciated the government’s efforts towards addressing youth-related concerns, including steps announced through direct communication with young citizens regarding strict action against examination paper leaks and the establishment of fast-track courts. The organisation also acknowledged the role of security agencies in protecting citizens and public assets while performing their duties under challenging circumstances.
Reaffirming its commitment to harmony, constitutional values, national unity and constructive nation-building, HRDS INDIA urged all stakeholders to reject violence, protect public property, remain alert against external interference and resolve differences through dialogue and democratic processes within the framework of the rule of law.
