New Delhi: The Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare at the University of Delhi organised an ‘Acharshala’ at the Tagore Auditorium, Faculty of Arts, on the theme “Youth, Democracy and the Future of India.” The programme brought together nearly 140 students and 20 faculty members for an insightful discussion on democracy, national development and the role of young people in shaping the country’s future.
Shri Nitin Pramod, I.F.S., Director at the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Prof. Bharatendu Pandey, Head of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi, was the Guest of Honour. The event was chaired by Prof. Ranjan Kumar Tripathi, Dean, Students’ Welfare, University of Delhi.
In his keynote address, Shri Nitin Pramod underlined the importance of press freedom and an informed citizenry in strengthening democracy. Speaking about India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, he highlighted the role of good governance, quality education, strong infrastructure and active civic participation.
He also encouraged young people to identify and resist corruption in their everyday lives while developing a deeper understanding of geography and geopolitics. Concluding his address, he said that the responsibility of making India a Vishwa Guru by 2047 would depend on the vision young people nurture today and the actions they take to turn that vision into reality.
Prof. Bharatendu Pandey drew connections between India’s rich classical intellectual traditions and the responsibilities of modern democratic citizenship. He encouraged students to focus on self-improvement, discipline and meaningful participation in the process of nation-building.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. ‘Acharshala’ offered students a valuable platform to interact with distinguished practitioners and academics and engage in meaningful discussions on issues that will shape India’s democracy and future.
