HRDS INDIA and Arkadis are exploring cooperation in Northeast India, focusing on tribal housing, rural development, waste management and sustainable infrastructure.
New Delhi: HRDS INDIA and Netherlands-based Arkadis are exploring a strategic partnership to support sustainable development projects in Northeast India. The proposed cooperation will focus on areas including affordable housing, tribal development, waste management, rural infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
HRDS INDIA is pursuing a proposed international development programme that could involve investments and development initiatives of up to €1 billion. The programme places particular emphasis on Northeast India and includes sustainable waste management as one of its key priorities.
The proposed partnership seeks to combine HRDS INDIA’s grassroots experience with Arkadis’ technical capabilities in engineering, design, infrastructure, sustainability and project development.
The discussions gained momentum after a meeting in Amsterdam between HRDS INDIA Founder and Secretary Shri Aji Krishnan and Arkadis Chief Operating Officer Hans Dekker. The meeting covered HRDS INDIA’s development work, its local presence and its efforts to support underserved communities.
Arkadis subsequently expressed interest in establishing a long-term strategic relationship with HRDS INDIA.
The potential collaboration covers several development areas. These include sustainable and affordable housing, tribal housing, community infrastructure, soil testing, agriculture, sustainable construction, rural development, infrastructure planning, climate resilience and environmental solutions.
HRDS INDIA’s Tribal Housing Project is among the potential initiatives that could benefit from the proposed cooperation. The project seeks to develop affordable and environmentally responsible homes for tribal and rural communities.
Arkadis could contribute technical expertise in areas such as sustainable construction, infrastructure planning, design and project development. This could help strengthen the technical framework of future housing and community development projects.
The Netherlands-based organisation has also expressed interest in sending a team of associates and professional representatives to HRDS INDIA’s New Delhi headquarters. The proposed visit will allow both sides to review existing and planned projects and identify technical requirements and potential areas of cooperation.
Sustainable waste management will form another important part of the proposed programme. The initiative could support better waste handling, recycling and environmentally responsible practices, alongside rural development, affordable housing and community infrastructure.
The organisations are also considering pilot projects to test new approaches before expanding them into larger programmes. The focus will remain on practical, scalable solutions that can deliver measurable benefits to local communities.
According to Shri Aji Krishnan, combining grassroots experience with international expertise, technology and strong partnerships can help create practical solutions for communities. He also highlighted waste management, rural development, tribal housing and community infrastructure as important areas for cooperation.
