Updated At: August 4, 2025 1:30 PM

Fourth and Final Monday of Shravan Observed Nationwide

Devotees Perform Udyapan to Complete Month-Long Fasting

New Delhi, August 4, 2025

Today marks the fourth and final Monday of the holy month of Shravan (Sawan), a day celebrated with deep devotion all across India. On this special occasion, devotees honor Lord Shiva and carry out the concluding rituals, known as Udyapan, after a month of fasting. According to the Hindu calendar, Sawan kicked off on July 11 and will wrap up on August 9, featuring four Mondays dedicated to fasting, with today being the last one.

Significance of the Last Sawan Somvar

The final Monday of Sawan is particularly significant as it symbolizes the end of the fasting cycle. The worship conducted on this day is considered extremely auspicious, believed to bestow upon devotees the full spiritual rewards of their month-long vrat (fast).

Auspicious Yogas and Timings

Today’s observance is made even more special by the occurrence of several auspicious yogas:

  • Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga
  • Brahma Yoga
  • Indra Yoga
  • Ravi Yoga (from 7:04 AM to 9:12 AM)

Worshiping Lord Shiva during these yogas is thought to help fulfill devotees’ wishes and clear away obstacles.

Puja Rituals and Udyapan Procedure

Early Morning Bath: Start your day with a sacred bath and dress in clean, traditional attire.

Jalabhishek: Offer holy Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, and Bilva (Bel) leaves on the Shivling.

Mantra Chanting: Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” followed by the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.

Charity: Give rice, milk, white clothes, or silver items to those in need.

Udyapan: Wrap up the vrat by reading the sacred story, performing Aarti, and sharing Prasad with fellow devotees.

Devotee Gatherings and Local Arrangements

A large number of devotees are anticipated to flock to temples across the country, particularly at the renowned Shri Doodheshwarnath Temple in Ghaziabad and various Jyotirlinga shrines. Local authorities have put in place special security and traffic measures to handle the surge of worshippers.

The last Sawan Somwar of 2025, which falls on August 4, holds great spiritual importance for Shiva devotees. It’s believed that completing the full puja rituals and wrapping up the vrat today can bring peace, prosperity, and divine blessings for the entire year.
