New Delhi: 3 April 2024

Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) has achieved a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy sector by becoming the first firm to exceed 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity. This accomplishment was marked by the commissioning of 2,000 MW of solar power at the monumental Khavda solar park in Gujarat on Wednesday.

With this new addition, AGEL now boasts the largest operating portfolio in India, totaling 10,934 MW. In the fiscal year 2024, the company brought online 2,848 MW of renewable energy capacity, according to a statement from the business. This operational portfolio includes 2,140 MW of wind-solar hybrid capacity, 1,401 MW of wind, and 7,393 MW of solar capacity.

Looking ahead, AGEL has set an ambitious target to reach 45 GW of renewable energy by 2030. The company’s 10,934 MW operating portfolio is projected to provide electricity to over 5.8 million households and help prevent approximately 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

The Adani Group Chairman, Gautam Adani, said he was proud of AGEL’s accomplishments and said, “We are privileged to be leading India’s renewable energy market. Adani Green Energy has transformed from a concept exploring clean energy to achieving an impressive 10,000 MW in installed capacity in less than a decade.”

Speaking about the Khavda solar park, Adani highlighted, “At Khavda, we are constructing the largest renewable energy plant globally, a 30,000 MW project that stands unparalleled. This is a significant step towards our target of 45,000 MW (45 GW) by 2030. AGEL is not merely setting benchmarks but redefining them for the world.”

AGEL also reported that its operations have been certified as “zero waste-to-landfill,” “single-use plastic-free,” and “water positive for plants with more than 200 MW capacity.”

Situated across 538 square kilometers, the Khavda facility is nearly as expansive as Mumbai and five times the size of Paris. Within just one year of commencing construction, AGEL operationalized 2,000 MW of cumulative solar capacity, representing over 6% of the 30,000 MW projected capacity.

The company emphasized the rapid progress at Khavda, leveraging Adani Infra’s project execution expertise, Adani New Industries Limited’s manufacturing capabilities, Adani Infrastructure Management Services Ltd.’s operational excellence, and the robust supply chain of strategic partners.
