Dharmendra’s Biopic: Why He Considered Salman Khan the Perfect Choice, Even Before His Own Family

Old interview resurfaces as Dharmendra’s health becomes a concern; veteran actor had named Salman Khan as the ideal choice for his biopic.

Amid growing concern for veteran actor Dharmendra’s health, an old statement of his regarding his biopic is once again in the spotlight. The 89-year-old actor is currently admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, and several celebrities including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Govinda, and other close friends have visited him. The Deol family has also been constantly checking on his condition.

In the midst of all this, Dharmendra’s old remark about who should portray him on the big screen has resurfaced—he had named none other than Salman Khan.

“Salman Khan is the right choice for my biopic”

Dharmendra and Salman Khan share a deep, affectionate bond, well known in Bollywood circles. In a 2015 interview with Bollywood Life, Dharmendra was asked who could best portray him if a film were ever made on his life.

His response was instant and clear:

“Salman Khan. He has many qualities similar to mine. He would portray me beautifully on screen.”

Dharmendra felt that Salman’s persona, simplicity, and emotional nature made him the most fitting choice to play the iconic actor.

A Strong Bond Built on Respect and Affection

Dharmendra has often openly praised Salman Khan. During the trailer launch of Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011), the senior actor spoke warmly about Salman’s generous heart:

“Salman is a very good human being. I love him. He has a pure heart.”

He had also recounted an incident from their early interactions that left a lasting impression on him. Once during a shoot, a camera accidentally fell into a lake. Without hesitation, Salman jumped into the water to retrieve it —a moment Dharmendra says sealed Salman’s special place in his heart.

Salman Rushes to the Hospital; Concern Visible on His Face

After news of Dharmendra’s hospitalization broke, Salman Khan was among the first to visit him. As per reports, concern was clearly visible on Salman’s face, and he appeared quite emotional while checking on the senior actor.

Fans and celebrities across the industry continue to pray for Dharmendra’s speedy recovery. Meanwhile, discussions around his biopic have resurfaced, with many recalling his heartfelt belief that Salman Khan would be the most authentic and impactful choice to bring his life story to the silver screen.
