New Delhi: Indian radiologist Dr Raghav Aggarwal has added an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sports Medicine qualification to his medical career after completing the IOC Programme in Sports Medicine in 2026.
The New Delhi-based senior consultant radiologist received the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine in Lausanne. With more than 20 years of experience, he specialises in musculoskeletal radiology, sports ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures.
Dr Aggarwal diagnoses and manages imaging-related aspects of conditions involving muscles, joints, tendons and nerves. His clinical practice includes sports injuries, arthritis, inflammatory disorders, nerve-related conditions and myofascial pain.
The combination of advanced musculoskeletal imaging and formal sports medicine training can help provide a more comprehensive approach to athlete care. It supports clinical decisions related to injury assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation monitoring and return to sport.
For Indian athletes, particularly those competing at high-performance levels, access to specialised sports imaging can help doctors identify injuries accurately and monitor recovery through imaging.
IOC Diploma Covers Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation
The IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine is a two-year postgraduate programme. It involves approximately 800 hours of learning, teaching, assessment and practical training.
The programme covers several areas of sports medicine, including athlete assessment, sports injuries, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions.
Speaking about the qualification, Dr Aggarwal said the programme strengthened his understanding of sports-related injuries and rehabilitation.
He said he hopes to apply the knowledge to improve patient care, especially for sportspersons, while contributing to the development of sports imaging and musculoskeletal ultrasound in India.

Training the Next Generation of Doctors
Dr Aggarwal is also involved in medical education and professional training. At the Dr M. L. Aggarwal Imaging Centre in New Delhi, he leads a four- to six-month fellowship programme for doctors interested in advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound.
The programme offers practical exposure to ultrasound scanning, interpretation of imaging findings, ultrasound-MRI correlation and image-guided procedures.
Roles in Radiology Organisations
Dr Aggarwal served as President of the Delhi State Chapter of IRIA in 2025–2026. He has held several other responsibilities within the association and served on the Governing Body of the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging.
In 2026, he was appointed National Coordinator of IRIA’s Preventive Radiology Committee, which focuses on imaging-based screening, early detection, risk assessment, research and public awareness.
International Conferences and Qualifications
His international academic work includes participation as a speaker, faculty member and course director at radiology conferences.
In 2026, Dr Aggarwal addressed the 24th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology in Singapore, where he discussed shear-wave elastography and ultrasound applications in sports injuries.
He also worked as Course Director, Moderator and Faculty at the annual conference of the Asian Musculoskeletal Society in Ahmedabad.
His other qualifications include an Expert Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound from Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia in Spain, musculoskeletal ultrasound training through EULAR, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
