Rajasthani Folk Artists and Assam’s Bihu Performers Bring ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ Theme Alive

New Delhi: The cultural evening held on Rajasthan Day at Pragati Maidan’s 44th India International Trade Fair brought together folk traditions from Rajasthan and Assam, offering visitors a vibrant display of India’s artistic diversity.

The programme began at the Amphitheatre Hall, where Smt. Anju Om Prakash, Additional Resident Commissioner of Rajasthan, lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the event. Smt. Deepali Sharma, Deputy Director of the Rajasthan Tourist Reception Centre, welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries with floral bouquets. She highlighted that Rajasthan and Assam’s folk artists performed under the unifying national theme.

The two-hour cultural programme opened with Bhungar Khan from Barmer, who performed traditional Rajasthani songs accompanied by his signature khadtal rhythm. The audience then watched Jaipur’s Moru Sapera and her troupe present Chari, Ghoomar, and Kalbelia dances. The dancers showcased remarkable flexibility, twisting and bending their bodies with ease, which drew continuous applause. Their act, in which they lifted rings using only their mouths and eyelids, won loud admiration from the crowd.

Tourism Officer Manoj Sharma said that Mahaveer Nath and his group from Jaipur performed the traditional Bhavai dance. The Brahmaputra North East Group from Darrang, Assam, followed with a lively Bihu performance that added festive energy to the evening.

The event concluded with a mesmerising Mayur Dance by Shri Vishnu Sharma and his troupe from Deeg, Bharatpur. Their graceful movements delighted the audience, who responded with enthusiastic applause. The group also performed “Phoolon ki Holi,” transforming the venue into a scene reminiscent of Braj’s vibrant festivities. Shri Khemendra Singh from Alwar anchored the programme in a clear and engaging voice.
