The Kannada film community is grappling with the untimely loss of actor Santhosh Balaraj, who passed away early Monday at the age of 34. He had been admitted to Sagar Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru, where he was receiving treatment for severe complications resulting from jaundice.

Santhosh Balaraj, widely recognized for his impactful roles in Tollywood’s action cinema, rose to fame through performances in films like Ganapa and Kariya 2. Hospital sources confirmed that he passed away at approximately 9:45 AM, after spending several days in critical care.

A Shining Star Who Died Too Soon

Coming from a family with deep roots in the film industry, Santhosh Balaraj was the son of the late Anekal Balaraj, a respected Kannada film producer known for several noteworthy projects. Santhosh made his appearance in the film industry back in 2009, with the film Kempa, in a similar vein to his father.

Santhosh starred in many different films that highlighted his versatility, from heavy duty action films to emotional and socially relevant character plays. His role in the 2015 underworld drama Ganapa, inspired by real-life events in Bengaluru, was a catalyst for his career. The film’s realistic characterization and Santhosh’s powerful performance were highly praised, establishing him a solid fan base. The film Ganapa later reached a wider audience when it was dubbed in Hindi under the title Daada Ka Vaada.

In 2017, he played the lead in Kariya 2, which was seen as a spiritual successor to the original Kariya, a cult hit produced by his father. His performance in the gangster-romance film was lauded for its emotional depth and action sequences, solidifying his reputation in Kannada cinema.

Health Struggles and Final Days

Santhosh had been battling jaundice intermittently for several weeks. Despite being under close observation in the intensive care unit at Sagar Apollo Hospital, reports on his condition remained vague. Hospital communication reportedly became minimal over time, leaving many in the dark regarding his actual medical status. Sadly, he passed away quietly on August 5, surrounded by loved ones. The actor was single and remained in his mother’s home care.
