Michael Bracewell to Lead New Zealand T20 Squad for Pakistan Series

New Delhi: 3 April 2024

After an extended period away from the game due to injury, all-rounder Michael Bracewell is primed to captain the New Zealand in their upcoming T20 series against Pakistan. Bracewell’s return carries significant weight for the team, given his readiness to lead the side in the five-match series set for later this month.

His return to the cricket field, after overcoming injuries such as an Achilles rupture and a fractured finger, fills a significant need for the team. Michael Bracewell has quickly made an impression on the field since becoming fit again, putting on outstanding performances with great first-class figures in his Plunket Shield comeback match.

Promising newcomers, Tim Robinson and Will O’Rourke joins Bracewell in the squad, along with several well-known figures from previous T20 World Cup seasons. However, it’s evident that important players like Trent Boult, Devon Conway, and Kane Williamson aren’t present due to their IPL commitments.

Sam Wells, the New Zealand selector, lauded Bracewell’s resilience and dedication throughout his recovery, underlining his determination and leadership attributes that will prove beneficial for the team in Pakistan. Wells expressed his pleasure at seeing Bracewell return to action after his time away from the field.

“Michael Bracewell has spent a long time on the sidelines, so it’s great to see him back playing cricket. It’s a credit to his diligence and dedication that he is back playing at a high level following an Achilles rupture. As a well-respected leader with experience leading Wellington and the New Zealand A and XI teams, we think he will be a great leader of the group in Pakistan.”
