Recognition on Montenegro’s Statehood Day marks a milestone in the 18-year diplomatic partnership between India and Montenegro.
New Delhi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has named Dr. Janice Darbari as the Doyen of the Honorary Consular Corps of Montenegro worldwide. The announcement was made during a special Statehood Day meeting, with Dr. Darbari describing the honour as both a personal milestone and a testament to the strengthening ties between India and Montenegro.
Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Darbari said, “On this auspicious occasion of Montenegro’s Statehood Day, I am deeply honoured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has anointed me as the Doyen of the Honorary Consular Corps of Montenegro worldwide. It is a profound privilege for an international personality to receive this recognition.”
The recognition comes as India and Montenegro commemorate 18 years of growing diplomatic engagement. Since the establishment of the Honorary Consulate General of Montenegro in India on January 1, 2008, bilateral relations have steadily expanded across diplomacy, trade, culture and people-to-people exchanges, founded on mutual respect, shared sovereignty and a common vision for international cooperation.
Reflecting on this milestone, Dr. Darbari acknowledged the collective efforts of Honorary Consuls representing Montenegro across the world.
“I am deeply honoured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has recognised the collective efforts of the Honorary Consuls of Montenegro worldwide. This recognition fills both Indians and Montenegrins with pride, especially as we reflect on the journey that began with the opening of Montenegro’s first diplomatic office in India in 2008,” she said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Darbari reaffirmed the commitment of the Honorary Consulate General of Montenegro in India to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
“We remain committed to deepening strategic partnerships, expanding bilateral trade, encouraging investment and promoting greater cultural and educational exchanges between our two countries. We wish the people of Montenegro continued peace, enduring progress and prosperity,” she added.
Congratulating Dr. Darbari on the honour, H.E. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of Eritrea to India and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in India, said the recognition was a fitting tribute to her unwavering efforts in strengthening the friendship between India and Montenegro. “It is truly a reward for your hard work in taking the friendship between our two nations to greater heights.
