The Asia Cup is seen as a crucial platform for Hardik to re-establish his value to the team.

The Men’s Asia Cup 2025 is fast approaching, and the spotlight is firmly on Hardik Pandya as he aims to reinforce his reputation as one of the premier white-ball all-rounders in world cricket. The Mumbai Indians captain touched down in Dubai on Thursday evening and is set to begin training on Friday ahead of the high-profile eight-team competition. Off the field, Hardik grabbed attention with a striking new look—sporting a short haircut with a sandy blonde shade—which he showcased on Instagram with the caption “New me.” His makeover quickly created a buzz online, with fans drawing comparisons to Ben Stokes and Nicholas Pooran.

On the cricket front, Hardik Pandya was last seen in action for India during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where the Men in Blue lifted the title after defeating New Zealand in the final. Before that, he featured in the home T20I series against England and later guided Mumbai Indians to Qualifier 2 in the IPL, where their campaign ended at the hands of Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings.

However, his journey as a leader in the national setup has taken a step back. Once regarded as the natural successor to Rohit Sharma in T20Is, Hardik is no longer part of India’s leadership core. For the upcoming Asia Cup, the reins have been handed to Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill serving as his deputy. Hardik, who captained India in multiple bilateral series after the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final defeat and often described the side as “his team,” saw his leadership stint curtailed when Rohit Sharma was brought back as captain as part of India’s preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With 94 One-Day Internationals, 114 Twenty20 Internationals, and 11 Test matches under his belt, Hardik has amassed 1,812 runs in T20Is at a strike rate of 141.67 and taken 94 wickets, with best figures of 4/16. As India gets ready for the Asia Cup, the star all-rounder will be eager to let his performances speak for themselves.
