Actor Bhumi Pednekar says the film’s message remains deeply relevant even two years after its release
New Delhi: Actor Bhumi Pednekar has shared an emotional reflection on her film Bhakshak, saying the story continues to strike a chord as violence against women and children remains a harsh reality.
As the film completes two years, Pednekar said Bhakshak crossed borders and touched audiences worldwide not simply because people watched it, but because they truly felt its message. While she remembered feeling overwhelmed by the response at the time of release, she said the continued relevance of the film leaves her heartbroken today.
Story still resonates
In her post, Pednekar said Bhakshak continues to mirror uncomfortable truths about society. She pointed out that sexual violence against women and children has become a recurring concern rather than an isolated issue.
She added that recent events have once again shown how unsafe the world can be for children. According to her, no child should have to grow up constantly alert to danger or living in fear.
Children deserve protection
Pednekar stressed that the responsibility of safety must rest with adults and society, not with children themselves. She said children deserve the freedom to play, dress as they choose, and grow up in an environment where they feel safe, accepted, and supported.
Speaking about the emotional impact of the film, she said some stories do not end when the credits roll. Instead, they stay with audiences and demand reflection. She described Bhakshak as one such film that refuses to let viewers look away from uncomfortable realities.
