New Delhi: 19 August 2025

Today, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with American president Donald Trump and a number of leaders from Europe in Washington, D.C. The meeting was a positive step toward an end to the war, as well as a framework for lasting security for Ukraine and in Europe.
Discussions on Security and Peace

The discussions focused on the battlefield, the need for peace, and the immediate requirement for tangible security assurances. President Zelenskyy stated that security guarantees were designed to create a baseline for the end of the war in a final and sustainable manner. He stated the United States sent a solid signal of its intention to be involved in and support the ensuing commitment to protecting peace and security.

Communications Addressing Humanitarian Issues: Zelenskyy

An area of discussion had significant humanitarian significance—specifically the safe return of Ukraine’s children and prisoners of war, prisoners and civilians held by Russia. There was agreement to consolidate efforts on those critical items. The U.S. President supported the notion of a broader call to world leaders, which President Zelenskyy said would be a critical conversation to address delicate and sensitive issues.

Contextualizing Support Throughout the World

President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to President Trump for extending the invitation and for convening this special dialogue format. He also acknowledged the presence and support of several prominent European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, Alexander Stubb, Ursula von der Leyen, and Mark Rutte.

Unity Between Europe and the US

Zelenskyy characterized the day as a significant show of authentic unity between Europe and the US. The active participation of the leaders showed their commitment to supporting Ukraine and establishing comprehensive conversation that will close further proximity to authentic peace in the region.

Creating a Stable Security Structure

The Ukraine President stressed that the hope from these talks was to formulate a stable security structure that would protect both Ukraine and Europe collectively. He reiterated his government’s commitment to continue coordination with partners to end the war in the way that is right, ensuring dignity and justice for the people of Ukraine.

In his closing statement Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to all the international partners who continue to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom and peace.
