Republic Day, observed on January 26, marks the day in 1950 when India declared itself a sovereign nation with a democratic form of government and attained republic status with the adoption of its Constitution. Having gained independence from British rule in 1947, India embarked on the journey of formulating its distinct constitution.

The grand parade in the national capital, held at Kartavya Path, featured French President Emmanuel Macron as the chief guest. The event showcased India’s military prowess and rich cultural heritage.

Throughout the country, various events and parades were organized to commemorate the historic day. The largest and most prominent parade took place at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, featuring different regiments of India’s armed forces and tableaus representing the cultural and historical heritage of various states. Sixteen tableaux from states and Union territories, along with nine from central ministries and departments, participated in the parade.

The elaborate ceremony concludes with the Beating Retreat ceremony scheduled for the evening of January 29.
