Fungus Found in Amul Yoghurt, Woman Tags FSSAI for Action

Complaint against Amul stirred fruit yoghurt goes viral after woman alleges contamination despite valid expiry date

New Delhi: A woman has claimed that she found fungus inside a sealed cup of Amul stirred fruit yoghurt even though the product was still within its expiry date. She shared photos and videos of the product on X, formerly Twitter, and her posts quickly spread online. The incident has raised concerns among consumers about food safety and quality standards.

The woman, Ruchi Kokcha, said the yoghurt pack showed an expiry date of March 11, 2026. Despite this, she claimed that fungal growth appeared on the top layer of the yoghurt after opening it.

What She Posted

In her first post on X, she described the incident and expressed shock. She said it was absolutely disgusting to see fungus inside Amul fruit yoghurt. She explained that her daughter peeled half of the lid and ate some of the yoghurt. When they removed the entire lid, they were shocked to see fungus on it. She pointed out that the expiry date was 11 March 2026 and yet the contents were contaminated. She also tagged the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and asked the authority to take action.

The photos she shared showed the printed expiry date clearly on the lid. The images also showed visible discoloration and what appeared to be fungal growth on the pink yoghurt surface.

Video Raises Questions

Soon after, she posted another message along with a video. In that post, she said that food safety is a joke in India and claimed that fungus was found inside Amul fruit yoghurt. She questioned who was responsible and again tagged FSSAI. In the video, she spoke about the incident and demanded accountability.

Daughter Ate Some

She stressed that her daughter had already eaten part of the yoghurt before they noticed the fungus. This detail worried many social media users. Several people reacted strongly and raised concerns about possible health risks. However, there have been no public reports of illness linked to this incident so far.

Amul Responds Publicly

After the complaint gained attention, Amul’s official customer care handle, Amul4Customer, replied to her post.

In its response, the account said it was concerned about her experience. It asked her to send a direct message with her contact number, residential address with pin code, and the name of the store where she bought the product so that the company could investigate the issue further.

So far, Amul has not shared a detailed public explanation about what caused the alleged contamination.

No FSSAI Statement

In both her posts, she tagged FSSAI and requested action. At the time of writing, FSSAI has not released any public statement about whether it has started an investigation into the complaint.

Public Reactions Grow

The posts received wide attention online. Many users questioned quality control in packaged dairy products. Some people suggested that improper storage, such as poor refrigeration during transport or at stores, could lead to fungal growth. However, these are only assumptions. No official report has confirmed whether the issue happened during manufacturing, packaging, or storage.

Similar Past Complaints

This is not the first time that products under the Amul brand have faced complaints on social media. In earlier cases, customers have raised concerns about contamination in dairy items. In some situations, the company responded by asking for product details and conducting internal checks. Each case required separate investigation.

Investigation Still Pending

At present, the matter remains under review. Consumers are waiting for further clarification from Amul and any possible action from food safety authorities. The final reason behind the alleged contamination will become clear only after a proper investigation.
