Navneet Chaturvedi set to speak on Punjab Rajya Sabha developments and legal proceedings

To present his legal challenge to Rajinder Gupta’s election and examine the applicability of the two-thirds majority requirement

New Delhi: A press conference will be addressed by Navneet Chaturvedi on April 27 at 11:30 AM at the Basement Hall, Chandigarh Press Club, to discuss key political and legal issues arising from the recent merger involving a Punjab Rajya Sabha member with the BJP and its impact under the anti-defection framework.

The media briefing will focus on the requirement of a minimum two-thirds majority under the anti-defection framework and questions surrounding its applicability in the present scenario. Chaturvedi will also highlight concerns regarding Rajinder Gupta, whose election has been challenged before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The case is currently under consideration through Election Petition (EP-2/2025), titled Navneet Chaturvedi vs Rajinder Gupta, in which Chaturvedi has sought to have the election declared null and void.

According to Chaturvedi, the claim of the required two-thirds majority may not be sustainable in view of the pending legal proceedings, potentially placing the broader political developments under scrutiny. He is also expected to address the wider implications of the issue.

The press conference is being organised to present his position and provide clarity to the media on the matter.
